Phage thumb

The emergence of dangerous antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria is most prevalent in the USA where antibiotics are available over the counter and are often mishandled. The answers to these problems may be locked in the science of the former Soviet Union, and whether this potential can be unlocked depends on subtle aspects of intellectual property and patent law.
A bacteriophage (from ‘bacteria’ and Greek φᾰγεῖν phagein “to eat”) is any one of a number of viruses that infect bacteria. Bacteriophages are among the most common biological entities on Earth. The term is commonly used in its shortened form, phage.

first off this had nothing to do with bacteriophages, secondly the technocrat in me is quite impressed with the technology that it portrays and how attainable it is. unfortunately there is an incredibly disturbing undercurrent to the whole depicted future that is rather Orwellian in nature. this should be viewed as a reminder of just how dangerous this sort of technology can be. this is due mostly in part to to the fact that human beings are, sadly, incredibly flawed and petty. The happy ending is actually the most unrealistic part of the micro-movie in this documentary. the ending does not follow from the set up. Realistically its protagonists in all likely hood would fail at their task to stop the accidently released computer virus, be captured by the security forces, then incarcerated and/or eliminated.
